Beasley gobbles up Gr. Media and their Boston Stations....
Greater Media's Boston radio stations WMJX-Magic-106.7, WROR-105.7, Country WKLB-102.5, Hot WBQT-96.9, Alt 92.9-WBOS will be under the control of Beasley broadcasting when the paperwork clears ....probably within about 6 months.
What changes will it bring to these stations? Format tweaks? New on-air personnel?
Will the current Gr. Media managers stay in place, or will Beasley bring in their own executives?
What will this mean to the 200 or so people who work at Gr. Media's 55 Morrissey Blvd location?
Lots of question, lots of speculation. Not a lot of hard answers, though.
Beasley is a similarly sized family owned company similar to Greater Media. They don't see to have the troubles that Clear Channel, Cumulus or CBS has. Looks like a pretty good match on the surface.
Here's the news story.
Greater Media, owner of Magic 106.7 FM, acquired for $240M

Bob Crane’s Audio Letter To Cousin Jim Senich – 1963
Many people know that Bob Crane (Col. Hogan of Hogan's Heroes') was in radio before he became the famous prisoner of war on the popular sitcom.
This is an audio letter he sent to his cousin, broadcaster Jim Senich, who was looking for some support and insight from his older and more successful cousin about the radio industry.
Funny, in 1963, he touches on things we still hear about today. The DJ who has self-doubts, feels underutilized and worries about the trajectory of his career. Bob Crane talks about getting experience, being flexible, and how he listens to other jocks around the country.
Fascinating to me was how he discovered talking over intro's of songs...after hearing a guy in Cleveland doing it.
Good stuff! ;-)
