RIP: Bill Swartley. Put Boston's first TV station on the air...

We are losing a little bit of history every day, as more and more of the pioneers of our industry pass away.

Bill Swartley, presided over Westinghouse's local Boston radio operatrion, and was charged with getting WBZ-TV up and on the air on June 9, 1948.

The TV industry was being created, and much of the TV broadcast day was test patterns.

Paula Street! Boy that didn't take long! ;-)

Paula Street handled middays at Oldies 103 - WODS until they flipped format to their current Amp103.3 format.

After some relaxing time off, looks like Paula is headed off to another CBS station, Q105 Tampa Florida. Someone noticed a facebook post with a moving van in front of her house).

Way to go Paula! We will miss you here in Boston!

Meanwhile, someone (don't know who!) made this video spoof of the Mary Tyler Moore Show opening...this time featuring Paula!

Yes, Magic 106.7, you have to pay the fine....

Back in 2008, under program director Don Kelley, Magic 106.7 ran a contest where they didn't quite explain all the rules on the air. Apparently a disgruntled contestant took offense and files a complaint. The FCC came knocking.

The station got an admonishment from the FCC and a paltry $4,000 fine.

I would think that would be the end of the story, but apparently the $4,000 was too much for Greater Media (Magic 106.7's parent company).

They asked that the penalty simply be an admonishment without the fine. The FCC's response? Don't push your luck!
