Live and Local Community Radio! It still exists....

And it exists in Marshfield.

WATD is one of the last local ownership community stations that still values local news coverage.  From what I can see the station is always live.

Ed Perry is a colorful character with a history in New England radio.  He is to be commended for keeping WATD relevant and serving the people in it's city of license.

The Globe had this article highlighting Ed Perry and WATD.

Liz Walker 2.0

Some may have wondered what happenned to Liz Walker, former anchor at WBZ-TV Channel 4.

Well, proving that there are second acts in life, Liz is now an ordained minister and involved in lots of good causes.

She came into public view again during the interfaith prayer service after the Marathon bombing.

Here is a recent Globe article that featured Liz Walker.

Embracing fear, rather than running from it

WBUR, WGBH: A Marathon of Coverage

Radio coverage for the Boston Marathon tragedy was not all that great.

Outside of WBZ radio, (which quite often took audio from sister TV station Channel 4, WBZ-TV), not many stations had the initiative (or resources) to cover the crisis.

Some of the CBS music stations were lucky enough to have an all news format they owned in their Boston cluster they could simulcast.

Kiss 108 on occaision took audio from Channel 5...which was a surprise to see a CHR drop music to carry all-news.

Entercom decided to simulcast Howie Carr on their network of stations ("So, who do YOU think did it?" "Do you think we should have the death penalty?")

Greater Media stations didn't seem to do much of anything.

Boston's 2 major non-commercial stations WBUR and WGBH-FM dove right in and gave it their full atttention.

Many were surprised that Outside of all-news WBZ, the best coverage was on the left side of the FM band. had this story of how the two pubcasters jumped right in.
