Bob Bittner & WJIB in the news....

Bob Bittner is living the radio man's dream. Owns his own radio station, plays music he wants, no tempermental boss to deal with...and doesn't have to worry about Arbitrons or spot sales.

He is the modern day Simon Geller!**

WJIB 740 AM Boston: Taking us back to a day when music was... well, good

**Simon Geller is the curmudgeon that put WVCA 104.9 in Glocester on the air and ran it from his home.

WEEI-850 - 98.5-Sports Hub Cage Match....

Even if you are not a sports fan, the rivalry between 850 WEEI and 98.5 The Sports Hub is one of the most exciting competitions in Boston radio for a long time.

It's not often we get head-to-head format competition like this anymore.

There were a couple of blog entries I came across.

The first is Bruce Allen's thoughts on how WEEI could recover from losing the most recent ratings battle (Spring) to WBZ-FM.

Media Roundup: How Can WEEI Bounce Back After Ratings Slip?

Also, the SonofCodmanSquare, offers some thoughts on the dangerous territory of a recent exchange on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger and Massaroti that potentially sounded like it was becoming more like WEEI's Dennis and Callahan.

That's NOT a real Oldie......

For many people the term "Oldies" refers to only one era of music (usually their era.)

But what IS an oldie? You've probably heard the debate ever since Oldies 103 signed on in Boston! ;-)

For some it's the Ronette's for some the Beatles, For some The Shirelle's, for some it's Boogie Oogie Oogie.

This was an interesting article in the Chicago tribune, and while from an out of town source, it has many great quotes from some great radio programmers about the constantly changing world of "Oldies" radio.

What's an oldie anymore, anyway? Elvis … The Supremes … The Cars?

Some relative newbies are passing for oldies on the radio, and it's making the genre tricky to define as older hits fade away

AFTRA making it's point at Ch. 7 event

Seems like AFTRA has basically given up on radio...and has seemed rather lackluster in recent years.

However, over at Ch. 7, the AFTRA members are out in public making their point.

WHDH-TV stars join picket line at Ch. 7 event

The labor battle between Channel 7’s on-air talent and management took an ugly turn this weekend when several anchors and reporters not only boycotted the station’s marquee Health and Fitness Expo — but protested outside of it.
