WMBR celebrates it's 50th....!

WMBR is a great example of "community radio". Lost of different music, lost of different shows, some experimental programming...always something interesting and different when you tune into WMBR. And the people who work(*) at WMBR are committed to and love the station. (*: I use the word work, because that's what they do, but everyone is a volunteer.)

Here's to ANOTHER 50 WMBR!

Tune In, Turn On…

Here is a gallery from WMBR's years:

Severin fired by WTKK

UPDATE 4/6/11: Jay Severin had been a talk host at WTKK since 1999 when they launched the format; now he is gone, replaced, for now, by Mike Bower. He has had a rocky relationship with the station over the past few years, from comments some found offensive to getting on the wrong side of Don Imus. Now he has been let go, despite two years remaining on his contract.

Greater Media has the press release
here
. While recent comments about sexual relations with his own employees,
years ago, may have triggered the firing (thus falling into a lack of "civility"
as Greater called it), it's no secret his ratings have been suffering and he had a big contract. They had reportedly tried to rid themselves of the contract two
years ago.

Radio Free Europe PSA - 1971

You might remember this...

(I still think of this PSA whenever I hear "On Broadway" play anywhere.)
