that they are carrying all Red Sox games in Spanish starting with
Opening Night on Sunday April 4. Weekdays, WWZN carries progressive talk shows as
part of brokered time. Jeff Santos of Revolution Boston says most games are at

evening or put online

Jeff Katz....He's back....

Former WRKO personality Jeff Katz is set to be the new morning man at "Rush Radio 1200” WXKS-AM.

The Herald's Jessica Heslam has this:

Jeff Katz to host morning show on new conservative talker

UPDATE: There was some controversy about Katz leaving WBT in Charlotte that I don't quite understand. (BTW...Isn't WBT owned by Greater Media here in Boston?)

Check out these articles from December:

10 Questions with Jamn's Ramiro Torres

Allacess featured 10 Questions with Ramiro Torres of WJMN's Jamn 94.5.

(Although the article looks more like a promo for his Weekend Top 30 Countdown.)

Q: What's your all-time favorite party record?

A: Whatever song is #1 on the Weekend Top 30 Countdown

I didn't realize he was from Everett and had so very little experience before Jamn'.

Comparing sports stations....

Local blogger, Bingo Bar Blog, has his take on the comparison between WEEI and 98.5 The Sports Hub.

It's rather long, and I'm not sure how correct his conclusions are, but it makes for some interesting observations and reading.

98.5 vs WEEI...

Ted Nation to WBZ-FM...!

Boston Sports Media has this story about Ted Sarandis getting back on the air with The Sports Hub 98.5 - WBZ-FM.

Ted Sarandis Gets Weekend Show on 98.5 FM

Although his Wikipedia page doesn't look like it's been updated yet.

Red Sox, Celts on a Boston FM...on HD

While some FM stations carry the Red Sox (in places like Gloucester or Westerly, RI),
there really is not an FM station in the immediate Boston area to do so. Some listeners to WEEI find they have trouble picking up the signal, or it barely comes in at their workplace, if at all. Well, Entercom is apparently trying to remedy that by putting Red Sox--and Celtics--games on FM 93.7

But you need an HD radio to get them.

HD signals are piggybacked on analog FM signals. WBZ-FM 98.5 has WBZ
news and talk. WKLB 102.5 has classic country. WTKK 96.9 has Irish music, and blues
fans can enjoy Radio Mojo on an HD signal at WZLX 100.7 (they also carry "Free
Form WBCN")

And now Entercom has put WEEI on the HD-3 signal of WMKK 93.7. The HD-1 signal is
regular "Mike", and Funkytown is on HD-2. WEEI's Sports Radio network Facebook page
confirms that WMKK-HD 3 will not only have WEEI's sports talk, but also the Red Sox
and Celtics games. HD radios are getting more affordable these days, including one
portable model that sells for about $40.

The quality of an HD-3 signal isn't quite as rich as that of an HD-1 or HD-2;
indeed, it will be in mono, but that's fine for talk or sports.

The Good Old Radio......

It's not often these days that we see an article extolling the benefits of radio. Katherine Boehret had this review in the WSJ of her experience with one of the new features coming to our old medium.....HD Radio.

Berkshire radio......

Anyone who is familiar with radio in the Berksires may know more about this article. It seems to leave more questions than answers.

Baldwin Says Goodbye

"Baldwin, who parted ways with WBRK (1340 AM) on Feb. 23, held a press conference Friday at Chapters Bookstore to officially announce the end of "Talk Berkshires," an afternoon program that debuted last May. "

The article mentions that "he has talked with officials at two Boston radio stations". Do you think a Boston station would be looking to the Berkshires for talent?

Saga's Manchester stations blow the roof off...!

Saga's Manchester facility (WZID-WFEA-WMLL)was affected by the recent wind storm, and apparently the hurricane force winds ripped and folded over a part of the radio station roof. For a few days we ran some of their live programming out of the Channel 9 conference room. Yesterday, a few programmers were allowed to stay and keep us on the air.

They operating the station in a rented space at Columbia Circle in Merrimack about twenty minutes away.

RIP: Don Kent.....

Longtime WBZ Radio & TV weatherman Don Kent passed away. At one time he was the most popular weatherman in Boston...and had the longevity that few have had. He was always a friendly and genial fellow.

WBZ had this story...

Don Kent, Legendary WBZ Weatherman, Dies At 92

They also had a slideshow as well.

Remembering Don Kent

(If you notice in one of the pictures, he is standing before a microphone flag that says WLAW, which was the original 680AM that started in Lawrence before RKO General purchased them. I didn't realize he had worked at WLAW. Did you?)

Oh, and Don is on the WBZ Blooper reel as well. You can find him with some technical issues at about 4:57.....or watch the whole thing for a laugh.

WBZ lets go of it's medical reporter.....

What’s up, Dr. Mallika Marshall?

According to station spokesgal Ro Dooley Webster, the good doc, whose last day was Friday, was “nearing the end of her contract” and the station figures it can pick up Mass. medical news from other sources.

Rush off WRKO as of Monday

Charlie Manning will replace Rush Limbaugh on Monday on WRKO, according to the
Herald. Limbaugh is leaving WRKO so he may join the new WXKS AM 1200 which is

co-hosted their "Spin Doctors" show, and the new program will be heavy on local
politics.
