The New Sound of WBOS: "Radio 92.9" Classic Alternative

WBOS FM 92.9 has changed format from “adult album” to “classic alternative”.
Happened at 6 pm yesterday...The staff (other than George Knight) has been
let go (including Holly Harris, host of the long-running "Blues On Sunday").

“Radio 92.9.Want more music and less talk?
Then 92.9 is the only place on the dial to get exactly that!
radio 92.9 brings you the best music from artists you love...
Like Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Pearl Jam, The Dave Matthews Band and many more.”

Comments:
I knew something was up when I turned on the radio at 7:45 this morning to some blaring music. And then they kept referring to themselves as Radio 92.9 with no mention of WBOS. So far, the new format isn't doing it for me at all. How many times in WBOS going to reinvent itself, each time alienating people? I still miss David O'Leary! Sigh...

No jocks heh? That's worked so well for Mike FM!

How long will Greater Media wait before they pull the plug on this untested format and put it out of its misery? What could possibly be next for 92.9? Adult Hip Hop? Or how about Alternative Music of Your Life?

A total waste of a good signal...

ITS ABOUT TIME...BOSTON!
FOR SOME TYPE OF CHANGE ON THE FM DIAL.I DID LIKE WBOS I ALWAY THOUGHT IT STRANGE FOR 2 AAA FORMATS IN THE AREA SPECIALY ONE ON TOP OF EACH OTHER.THE RATINGS ON BOTH STATIONS WERN'T ALL THAT MUCH TO TALK ABOUT.
IM GLAD SOMETHING IS HAPPENING HERE!RADIO 929 NOT BAD SO FAR.

**No jocks heh? That's worked so well for Mike FM!*

Well. MIKE-FM has been in the top 10 since the switch. Not bad for an out-of-town signal.

So, any change is better?

Can't say I agree with you.

Some changes are bad changes.

Don't know what you're reading. Mike FM is ranked 15 with a 2.1! Nice!

I am at home without numbers in front of me. However, Wtr 07, Spr 07 and Summer 07....I believe they were in the top 10. (Admittedly they had a tough Fall 07 and since....)

I think within Entercom, Mike-FM is considered a sucess.

There's not much you can do with an out of town signal. You can't really compete with the big boys.

I think the best they can hope for is to run it cheaply....with mediocre ratings....and they would consider it a sucess.

Not particularly creative radio...but it makes money....as uninspiring as that sounds....
