WRKO in transition.....

Adam Reilly of the Boston Phoenix had this feature on the effort to retool WRKO.

The WRKO shuffle
Sizing up the station’s extreme makeover

While an effort does seem to be underway to give the station a new look, can anyone tell me what the end result is supposed to look like?

Air America Sold!

...Franken to leave...

Air America is to be taken over by a Real Estate Developer...

Can they survive without Franken?

Air America Radio in tentative deal to be sold; Al Franken to depart...

"The agreement with Stephen Green, the founder and chairman of SL Green Realty Corp., appears to rescue the struggling network, which has been seeking a buyer since last fall when it filed for bankruptcy reorganization after reaching an impasse with one of its creditors."

Rescue?

Sounds like an infusion of some cash to pay off creditors....but will the flawed business plan change?

The network said in a statement that Franken's last day on the network would be Feb. 14, and that his 12pm-3pm ET time slot would be taken over by Portland, Ore.-based talk show host Thom Hartmann.

In the past, Franken provided so much free publicity for them.

Will they be invisible post-Franken?

The River runs wide.....

For those following the transitions at The River (WXRV) in Haverhill.

Terry Lieberman is WXRV's GM. He transfered from sister stations WNCS/WRJT/WDOT "The Point" in early Janurary.

Former River PD Dana Marshall is now the Music Director at WBOS. Will we hear a change in the direction of WBOS?

Nice work, if you can get it.....

Sirius gives shock jock $82.9M in stock

"Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. paid Howard Stern an $82.9 million stock bonus Tuesday after the company beat a subscriber target set two years ago when it lured the star shock jock away from terrestrial radio.

The bonus came one year after Stern started broadcasting his hugely popular and racy programming on satellite radio. The stock bonus is on top of Stern's five-year, $500 million pay package that he signed in October 2004."

So, let's get this straight.

Sirius is still losing tons of money.

Stern has about one-tenth of the audience he had on terrestrial radio.

And he make more money than ever?

Nice gig! ;-)

Some tidbits.....

Is anyone interested in Richard Hatch anymore?

I know the the reality series star who thought he could get away without paying taxes on a million dollars has some friends and aquaintances here in New England. I also know there is some interest since he did his stint at the now defunct Star 93.7.

Hatch Behind Bars
'Survivor' champ faces reality of prison

"The Hatch on the screen was confident and cocky; he strutted around in the nude and calmly plotted victory. This man is jittery and talks in hyperspeed, jumping from subject to subject.""

This came out before Christmas. You would think a guy who has kids would know about the internet. You would think someone in broadcasting would be fascinated by the internet...

Anyone remember talk host Bruce Stevens? He did some time at WBZ in the 80's. HE had been hanging out at WTIC in Hartford teaming up for "Afternoons with Bruce and Colin" ...and doing a weekend shift at WTKK.

He is out...as Colin McEnroe goes solo in the afternoon.
