Howie...part 63.

Does Entercom really own Howie until 2012?

That sounds pretty unreasonable.

Next stop....October 15th!

Stalled Carr urges judge to rethink radio ruling

Howie....Part 62.....

In the ongoing drama of the Howie Carr affair, here is an update from the Herald's Jessica Heslam:

Carr off the air as he awaits ruling on contract

"Now, legal experts say Carr’s options include (1) appealing the judge’s order, (2) sitting it out, (3)going back to WRKO or (4)having all three parties sit down and talk. The court has set a status review of the case for Oct. 15."

As far as his options, I don't know how long option 1 would take....we all know the delays that happen with appeals, but if he could get a quick appeal heard this, no doubt would be the best choice.

As far as option 2....we don't know how long "sitting it out" would last...3 months? 5 years? That's still unclear.

Option 3 seems unlikely after all the bad blood.

Option 4 seems to be the likely option....unless one of the parties is obstinate.

In case you missed the article mentioning Howies salary at WRKO last year:

WRKO paid 'servant' Carr $790,000

Where does Cary Pahigian fit into all this...?

Now that this Howie Carr situation is getting messy.....where does Cary Pahigian fit into all of this?

It was a surprise when we learned that an active GM for Saga Communications in Portland Maine was acting as Howie's agent. Does he bear any responsibility for this legal mess?

Peter Kenney has some thoughts on Cary....

Howie Carr did a sit down interview with Ch. 4.

Not so fast Howie....!

Yesterday there was a hearing on the Howie/Entercom/WRKO/GrMedia/WTKK saga. Today a judge issues a ruling.

Ruling issued in Howie Carr case

A Suffolk Superior Court judge issued a memo today on several motions in the increasingly-convoluted legal case between Howie Carr and his employer WRKO, which could mean that Carr can't jump to rival station WTKK as planned.

Now it's apparent that Howie won't be on WTKK for the first day of the fall rating period.

Howie: taking time off

BTW...Here is the Herald's Jessica Heslam's story on the yesterday's hearing

Ruling leaves Howie Carr in limbo

WUMB turns 25 today.....!

WUMB, the "Little Station That Could" turns 25 today and is celebrating all day today.

Folk station celebrates its deep roots

For those unaware of WUMB, you might want to check out their website.

WUMB got it's license in 1982 (the last license awarded in the City of Boston?), at a time when few would have given it a chance.

Since then, hey've surprised a lot of people, expanded their signal in the North and South. And after some varied programming, have settled into a nice little folk format...and a loyal listener base as well.

Happy Birthday to WUMB!

Judge in Howie Carr suit to issue ruling today

After a 45-minute hearing in Suffolk Superior Court, the judge in radio host Howie Carr's lawsuit against WRKO-FM said he would rule in the case today, according to Carr spokeswoman Nancy J. Sterling. Carr is looking to take his conservative morning talk show to rival WTKK-FM starting tomorrow.

Dennis and Callahan are back.....!

In case you missed the story about Dennis and Callahan reaching a contract agreement with WEEI....The Herald's Jessica Heslam has this article:

New deal sends Dennis & Callahan back to airwaves

Carr hopes to start on WTKK on 9/20, but lawyers may interfere

The Herald says Howie Carr intends to move his show to
WTKK FM 96.9 next Thursday, a day after his WRKO contract expires. However
nothing is etched in stone yet as lawyers are at the ready. WRKO claims
they have matched WTKK's offer but Carr's attorneys claim it's not so
and further they say that any non-compete clause is illegal in this state.
It's possible Carr could be off for an extended period, especially if
an emergency restraining order keeps him from starting right away
at WTKK.

Or he could well be moving to WTKK by next week, along with Sandy, Happy,
the death pool, "Mumbles" cuts, and "Winky the elephant". While Carr can't
directly mention his move on the air, he has been throwing hints (as have
WTKK hosts Michael Graham and Jay Severin)

Paul Sullivan of WBZ has passed on

Paul Sullivan lost his battle with brain cancer late Sunday night. Scott Fybush's NorthEast Radio Watch
has more. The WBZ talk host stepped down a few months ago and mere days ago
it was announced that the decision had been made to stop treatment--but the
suddenness of his passing after that is still a bit of a shock. A great loss
to local radio of the man who inherited David Brudnoy's slot (David insisted
Sully get the shift).

Dennis and Callahan return; 5 year deal

Sox win, Pats win, and sports listeners who enjoyed Dennis and Callahan on WEEI are winners, too. That's because according to Boston Sports Media's David Scott,
Entercom has agreed to a five year deal with their morning drive duo.

Details will be released tomorrow. Still no word on whether or not their
colleague at sister station WRKO, Howie Carr, will be able to jump
to Greater Media's WTKK in a couple weeks, though. If he does, he will
have to face D&C as one of several morning drive shows airing in the Hub.
