Who's your Daddy...?

What are the chances that a Junior at Boston College with no on-air experience could get his own national radio show on XM Radio?

Well, what would be the chances if your dad was Tim Russert?

Luke Russert
On Air Personality

Luke Russert is currently a sophomore at Boston College. An avid sports fan, by the time he was 16, he had attended two Super Bowls, a World Series, five Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Games, an NBA final, four NBA All-Star Games, two NCAA Final Fours, an NHL Stanley Cup Final, a U.S. Open and The Preakness Stakes. A graduate of St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., where he played football and baseball, Russert worked for the highly-rated ESPN program Pardon the Interruption during the summer of 2005.

DePetro wants his job back

The drama continues....

The Globe's Andrea Estes has the story:

DePetro Wants His Job Back

Station spokesman George Regan declined to comment until after a scheduled 3 p.m. news conference by DePetro and Bellotti.

...with a Press conference no less!

Elections and Talk Radio....

In addition to the Phoenix article mentioned in the post below, Te Herald's Jessica Heslam had this article on Monday:

WRKO = Right Wing Radio?

Much has been said of current right wing leanings of talk radio in Boston and the country.

The Pheonix's Adam Reilly did some listening to WRKO leading up to election day.

WRKO fires Depetro

Radio host fired for derogatory remark about candidate

WRKO Radio talk show host John DePetro was fired this morning after he made a derogatory remark Thursday about the sexual orientation and the weight of Green-Rainbow party gubernatorial candidate Grace Ross.

About the incident, Grace Ross said:

"The real issue here is that we have a whole subculture of right-wing talk show hosts who think they're more important than they are."

"First of all, this is not news to folks that I'm a lesbian. It's on my website," Ross said on Thursday. "Big, fat? I guess that's supposed to be his way of saying he doesn't like somebody."

And...Here is Depetro's response...

DePetro tells Globe he was "stunned'' by firing

"Recalling his remarks on the radio, DePetro told his listeners that he wished someone would "tell the fat lesbian to shut up."

"I know it's mean but she is technically obese and lives an alternative lifestyle. It's kind of mean. What if someone yelled about Kerry Healey being a spoiled white b---h or Mihos being an arrogant wealthy egomanic.''

(More) Rumblings on The River....?

Looks like there are some changes afoot at WXRV, "The River", in Haverhill (One of the most unstable radio operationm in the area.)

From an email I recieved:

Best guess is that Dana Marshall is out as PD and 10AM-2PM on air slot at WXRV-FM.
Her name and picture is off the website and Lisa Garvey was in her slot.
More change at the River. Do they even have a GM?

I don't know who the current GM is. The contacts page lists Steve Young as the General Sales Manager...Who is acting as GM? The owner?

From what I understand, everytime the owner has a hemorrhoid flare-up, he comes in wanting.....Change.

WXRV, The River, has had a good run in their current incarnation. (92.5 used to be an AC station) Their ratings have come close to the ratings of WBOS, a Boston station with a stick on the Prudential building....and better than WFNX which had a pretty good run in it's day as well.

UPDATE:

From FMQB.com

Triple A WXRV (92.5 The River)/Boston PD Dana Marshall resigns for personal reasons. Marshall had worked in various programming positions for nearly six years including morning drive, music director and PM drive. She was actively involved in the station community and outreach programs. Reach out to her at: danamarshallmusicdirector@yahoo.com.

Who reads the wedding annoucements...?

Someone sent this along to me. It's from the May, 1997 New York Times.

For anyone who bought the line that Jay Severin was a high flying swinging bachelor...

Renee Klock, James Severin 3d

I'll never understand why he would play up the bachelor image with lots of sexual innuenndo. Isn't the first rule of being famous "don't say things that are easy to disprove!"

Anyone care to speculate on why he dropped the last letter of his name?

Also, a little late, but here is the web site for Jay's now defunct syndicated show.

Jay Severin Has Issues....

Doesn't look like he spent much time on his blog. ;-)
